Opportunity

In 2008, the Government sought to improve water efficiency across the country with the adoption of wastewater reuse techniques in some 220 municipalities.

Solution

Our services were hired to design and deliver a Master Plan on Sustainable Wastewater Reuse that would recommend the most suitable alternatives for reclaimed water reuse, and engineer projects for immediate planning and investment. As part of the Master Plan, we also modeled and evaluated scenarios for the reuse of treated wastewater for agriculture, industry, landscaping and groundwater recharge. Multi-criteria and Cost-benefit analysis were conducted to compare technologies and provide an actionable list of municipal investment plans for the client.

Outcome

As a result of the project, the Client has been able to construct new treatment plants that minimize the impact on local health and environment, set appropriate tariffs on water usage and institute new regulations on water savings and reuse technologies.
